Microsoft Entertainment en Devices divisie op de schop

dinsdag 25 mei 2010 — Volgens geruchten gaat Microsoft de divisie waar Windows Mobile Devices onderdeel van is reorganiseren. De divisie is verantwoordelijk voor Windows Mobile devices, de Xbox 360 en andere consumentenapparaten.

Microsoft kan niet achterblijven op Apple en Google

De reorganisatie is het gevolg vanwege het grote succes van de iPhone van Apple en Android van Google in de zeer competitieve Smartphone markt en het achterblijven van Microsoft op die markt.

Volgens bronnen zal J. Allard, hoofd van divisie opstappen naar aanleiding van zijn besluit om te stoppen met het Tablet Computer project dat hij leidde. Volgens bronnen zal de reorganisatie echter nog meer behelzen.

Vernieuwde Windows Phone 7 software

De problemen van Microsoft op de Smartphone markt de laatse jaren zijn voor een groot deel te wijten aan achterlopende Windows Mobile software. Microsoft heeft moeite gehad mee te gaan in nieuwe ontwikkelingen als vingernavigatie en online App winkels.

Microsoft is van plan om binnen een paar maanden producten met het nieuwe Windows Phone 7 te gaan leveren. De software is verbeterd door herontwerp van de User Interface, betere ondersteuning voor touch screens en verbeterde Webbrowsing.

Dit lijkt in ieder geval een stap in juiste richting. Toch is de vraag of Microsoft makkelijk in staat is om een deel van de markt terug te winnen van Apple en Google. Het bedrijf wordt steeds vaker afgetroefd door zijn concurrenten.

Wij denken dat het lastig gaat worden. Maar meer concurrentie binnen de Smartphone markt is alleen maar toe te juichen.
