Gratis Netbook Software

Een netbook is iets minder krachtig dan een laptop. Onderstaande opensource software is volledig gratis en een goede aanvulling voor je netbook. De programma's zijn niet te zwaar en zijn essentieel voor een gevarieerd gebruik van netbooks.

Office Software voor Netbooks

Het bekendste Microsoft Office alternatief is OpenOffice van Sun Microsystems. Het OpenOffice pakket is verkrijgbaar in de Nederlandse taal en bevat de volgende onderdelen:

• Writer: Met Writer kun je documenten opstellen. Van een korte memo tot een uitgebreid rapport. Dit onderdeel ondersteund oa: autocorrectie, autocomplete, opmaak en enkele HTML-features.
• Calc: Calc is het spreadsheet programma van Open Office. Dit werkt vrijwel hetzelfde als Excell en deelt ook een groot deel van de functionaliteiten.
• Impress: Slidehows maak je in OpenOffice met Impress. Met oa 2D en 3D clipart en export functies voor HTML, PPT en PDF.
• Draw: Met Draw maak je in een handomdraai schema's. Je kunt objecten kunt slepen uit de library en deze daarna roteren en vergroten. Vergelijkbaar met MS Visio.

Download hier de laatste nederlandstalige versie van Open Office voor linux, windows en mac. Het is natuurlijk ook mogelijk om GoogleDocs te gebruiken en alle documenten online te houden.

Netbook PDF lezers

Adobe Acrobat / Reader is een wat zwaar pakket. Op desktop PC's duurt het al vaak langer om pdf's te openen, maar op netbooks kan dit echt storend lang worden. Een goed opensource alternatief is FoxIT Reader. Met FoxIT Reader gaat het openen van pdf's een stuk sneller. Ook is dit software pakket een stuk minder gevoelig voor PDF exploits (en dus virussen). Dit pakket werkt enorm goed op mobile internet devices.

E-mail Software

Mozilla Firebird is een prima alternatief voor Outlook. Het pakket is via plug-ins nog helemaal aan te passen. Dus als je je afspraken wil beheren op je netbook, dan kun je bijvoorbeeld de Lightning Agenda plug-in installeren.

Netbook Media Players

VLC Media Player

Er is vrij weinig wat VLC media player van VideoLAN niet kan afspelen. Met support voor ondertitels, 720P + films, streaming en converteren haal je met deze media player een compleet pakket in huis. Geen gemekker met codecs, VLC media player heeft support ingebouwd voor de meeste media bestanden.

VLC Media player is verkrijgbaar voor Mac, Windows en Linux en in meerdere talen. Download direct de laatste versie van VLC Media Player, Nederlands, Windows (17.6 MB)

Foobar2000

Voor het afspelen van je muziekbibliotheek kun je goed gebruik maken van Foobar2000. Deze speler met een simpele user interface is een stuk minder zwaar dan iTunes of WinAmp. Daarentegen levert Foobar wel dezelfde functionaleiten zodat je bv. je MP3 kunt taggen met meta-informatie. Ook zijn er vele plug-ins verkrijgbaar.

Wachtwoord beheer

De hoeveelheid paswoorden die je voor verschillende accounts in moet voeren groeien. Om dit op een veilige manier bij te houden kun je gebruik maken van een wachtwoordendatabase als KeePass. Met KeePass heb je al je wachtwoorden bij de hand, en als je netbook onverhoopt gestolen word, dan kan men niet zomaar bij al je gegevens. Je voert 1 master password in en alleen jij hebt toegang tot de database.

Portable Apps

Portable Apps zijn programma's die niet geinstalleerd hoeven te worden. Deze draaien volledig vanuit een directory, en kunnen dus ook vanaf USB runnen. Vooral omdat netbooks zo draagbaar zijn, en je tijd verdeeld over verschillende apparaten (smartphones, netbooks, desktop pc's) is het handig om ook je programma's overal te kunnen gebruiken. Zo hoef je niet telkens je instellingen te wijzigen, en kun je je favorieten en adressenbestanden gewoon meenemen. Ook een backup en herinstallatie is sneller gedaan met portable apps.
